The conference "Climate Protection as Development Opportunity"


Projects that combine credible greenhouse gas reduction with promotion of development opportunities in countries of the South would be an important step towards achieving sustainable development. To pave the way for such projects is the goal of a conference at the Hamburg Institute of International Economics on June 7-8, 2004. The conference is scheduled between the Renewable Energy Conference in Bonn (June 1-4) and the Global Carbon Market Forum of IETA in Cologne (June 9-11) andthe Sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies of the UNFCCC in Bonn (June 16-25).

analysis of factors for success for credible CDM projects in the field of renewable energies
positioning of the CDM Gold Standard in the efforts for reliability
support for voluntary offset projects on a mini- and micro-scale
identification of necessary political frameworks in investor/buyer and host countries
promotion of factors for success (supply- and demand side as well as political/administrative conditions)
promotion of networks between actors that are needed for successful projects
identification of next steps
in international politics
in host countries suitable for renewable energy projects
