PapiTchad working group on solar cooking

The issues: climate protection, renewable household energy - in particular affordable cooking energy supply, conservation of nature and the environment.
PapiTchad working group is not an organization, but a loose working group of several German NGOs which are active in the fields of development, environmental and climate protection. In August 2003, a Chadian lady (Désirée Nguekadjita) visited Germany and came to know the Papillon. She was enthusiasmated.
Members or our 5 organizations met in september 2003 during the conference "Solar Energy for Africa" organized by "Dialog International" in the University of Düsseldorf, Germany, and decided to launch a project of promotion of the Papillon solar cooker in Chad. Our Choice was based on extensive prior experience with this type of cooker in Burkina Faso and the clear preference of our African partners given to the Papillon. The Papillon is fit for use in a large family, while most other cookers are much less potent and cover only the needs of a small or nuclear family..
In march 2004, we organized training courses for the construction of the Papillon in 2 locations in Chad. We are now entering the phase of local production and promotion.
