Since 1995, there is a partnership of LHL with two private schools - one elementary and one secondary - in Benoye. These had been founded by a couple of German volunteers, Mrs. and Mr. Hell-Neubert.

The schools operate successfully and have gained a good reputation. But the secondary school, the "Collège de l'Amitié", still needs considerable financial input from outside. This is so because girls pay only 50 % of of the school fee for boys.  It is not astonishing, that girls now outnumber boys.

In the orbit of these schools, the assocoation JARABE (in the local language: "We are building the country") was founded and has lead to considerable civil society dynamism in the meantime. Among other things, a cultural centre has been built and is functional.  It is equipped with solar panels for lighting, television and telephone. For several sewing workshops and studios, !2 sewing machines have been installed.  A workshop for rural technology & equipment has also been launched and is going to start the production of Papillon cookers. These achievements would not have been possible without the contribution of  the German ministry of cooperation and development and the Lower Saxony Foundation for the Environment.
